How Much?!?!?

I was happy to see the Clarion Ledger recently publish a story about the additional costs added to fines when you get to the courthouse to pay.

Nearly all of us have been there-- standing in line waiting to pay that speeding ticket or other traffic violation-- you called ahead and made sure you knew exactly how much money to bring, but are shocked to find out that your ticket for not wearing a seat belt has suddenly doubled. Why is that? When you were told what the fine would be, that amount did not include little things like court costs and state assessments. That's right, fines on top of fines to make sure everyone from the State Capitol down to the dog catcher gets their share, and in some cases, that fine can even double costs!
